Free Pattern: Heat Wave Necklaces

We’ve experienced slightly odd weather this spring and early summer – cool days are interrupted by humid heat waves, making us all grateful for the invention of air conditioning and in-ground pools. With the heat, though, our desire to knit and wear our knitting hasn’t abated, so on a particularly warm evening, Kate sat down armed with a pile of Canopy Fingering and whipped up these simple i-cord necklaces.

Perfect for ing, using up colorful scraps from other projects, or as a “swatch” to play with unique color combinations, these necklaces are not only easy, but they’re fun and addictive!

Materials: Canopy Fingering in orchid, fern, mango, aloe, palm bud, manatee + river dolphin
Needles: US 2 (2.75 mm) dpns
Notions: scrap yarn of comparable gauge, darning needle

Necklace #1:
Using US 2 dpns, provisionally cast-on 4 sts. Work in color stripe sequence as follows:
• orchid: 58 rounds
• palm bud: 17 rounds
• aloe: 3 rounds
• orchid: 3 rounds
• aloe: 3 rounds
• orchid: 3 rounds
• aloe: 3 rounds
• orchid: 16 rounds
• fern: 2 rounds
• mango: 5 rounds
• fern: 18 rounds
• aloe: 8 rounds
• palm bud: 3 rounds
• orchid: 3 rounds
• palm bud: 3 rounds
• orchid:3 rounds
• palm bud: 3 rounds
• fern: 43 rounds
• river dolphin: 9 rounds
Unzip provisional cast-on, and close i-cord using kitchener stitch. Weave in ends and steam block with iron.
